Tour Wonders of Peru 10 days

Day 1: Arrival to Lima

You will be picked up at Jorge Chávez airport in Lima. Welcome to Peru! We will head to your hotel to check in and rest. Depending on the arrival time we will make a short tour of modern Lima, visiting Parque Kennedy in Miraflores, the ‘Calle de las Pizzas’ and other popular spots. We will sample a delicious pisco sour cocktail at the Rustic restaurant on the Costa Verde.

Day 2: Lima - Iquitos

Early in the morning we take a flight to Iquitos, the world’s largest city without a road connection. Our guide meets us in the airport and takes us to visit the Manatee Rescue Centre, a sanctuary for these aquatic mammals at risk of extinction. We head to the “Huequito” to continue to our accommodation at the Bungalows. We check in, then after lunch walk around the area to appreciate the great variety of plants with medicinal, hallucinogenic and aphrodisiac properties. Later we visit the settlement of Panguana Zone I, meet the locals, and learn something of their customs and livelihoods. We enjoy the pleasures of the new Peruvian cuisine, a balanced and healthy gourmet menu rich with the delights of the jungle. After dinner we try exotic cocktails made from local ingredients, and listen to legends and stories of the Amazon.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3: Sailing down the Amazon

After a healthy jungle-style breakfast, we relax and swim in a natural jacuzzi in a ravine near our Lodge. We have lunch and then take a boat down the Amazon and nearby tributaries to appreciate the flora and fauna, especially the pink and grey river dolphins. We return to the Bungalows and then after dinner make an excursion to Tarapoto island to observe the diverse and interesting night time fauna.

Meals included: Full Board

Day 4: Amazon - Iquitos

After breakfast we visit the village artisans and say farewell to our jungle hideout. We return to Iquitos by boat. After arriving in the city, we head to the beach of Nanay to see the alligator sanctuary known as “Don Pepe”. We can also see the largest aquatic plants of the Amazon, the Victoria Regis water lilies. We have lunch in Nanay’s floating restaurant then head back to Iquitos for a brief city tour. We return to the hotel and have the night free.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5: Iquitos - Lima

Iquitos has a growing reputation as a tourist destinaron thanks to its location on the banks of the world’s greatest river, the Amazon. It also has a historic past dating from the rubber boom, which has left a legacy of crumbling 19th-century mansions. However, its main attraction is as a departure point to the Amazon jungle and the National Reserve of Pacaya Samiria, the largest protected area of virgin jungle in Peru. Some visitors continue their journey downriver to Manaos (Brazil), to eventually arrive at the Atlantic Ocean, some 3.360 kilometres away. A focus for mystical tourism is ayahuasca, a hallucinogenic plant prepared from the liana banisteriopsis caapi, which is used for medicinal and spiritual purposes. Today we take a flight back to Lima, where we stay the night.

Meals included: Breakfast
Optional: Gourmet dinner in the famous restaurant Huaca Pucllana with an impressive view on a pre-Incan Huaca.

Day 6: Lima - Cuzco City Tour

After breakfast we take a flight to Cusco. Later we will visit the city market where we can see medicinal and aromatic herbs as well as fruits from the high jungle, local coffee and wild mushrooms. We continue with a city tour, visiting the K’oricancha or Temple of the Sun - the most important Incan religious centre - and archaeological sites including Kenco, Sacsayhuaman, Puca-Pucara y Tambomachay, absorbing something of the mystic tradition of the Incas in each site.

Meals included: Desayuno.
Optional
: Dinner in the restaurant Cicciolina, the best of the city.

Day 7: Tour Cuzco - Ollantaytambo – Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes.

The day begins with an excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where you will have the chance to see the typical Incan terraces and villages, such as Pisac with its colourful Indian market, Calca, Yucay and Urubamba. After lunch we will explore Ollantaytambo, an extensive complex that was used as an administration, agricultural and religious centre in the Inca era. Here you can see large rock walls, temples and palace. From Ollantaytambo we take a train to Aguas Calientes where we spend the night.

Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 8: Aguas Calientes - Wonder of the world “Machu Picchu” - Cuzco

From Aguas Calientes we will climb up to the "lost Inca city" and one of the new seven wonders of the world in a 25 minutes zig zag course. In the next 3 hours, we will learn more about the ruins. Our guide explains to us, what an incredible amount of technology was required and how precise the builders must have treated the massive stone to let this complex emerge. The laid out water-spending canals indicate that the Incas had a profound knowledge of hydraulic processes. The stairs that were curved into the stones and the Intihuatana (or the "highest point of the sun"), that was used as a solar calendar und affected the seeding and harvesting, are forms of expression of the fundamental knowledge and the technological progress of the empire. All those constructions along with the temple of the sun, the "Tumba Real", the priest's house, the Inca baths and the "Templo de las tres Ventanas" allow us to plunge back into the past. With the help of our guide we can admire these impressive constructions. In the afternoon we will head back to Cusco.

Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 9: Cusco: Free day

Today is a free day to relax, shop, and enjoy the beautiful Imperial City of Cusco. Places of cultural interest to visit include the house of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (one of the first Incan chroniclers), the church of San Blas and the surrounding barrio, known for its artists and craftsmen.

Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 10: Cuzco - Lima – home

A morning flight leaves from Cusco to connect with international flights from Lima. We hope you've had a magical experience!
