The Route of Chocolate 4 days - Print - Contact - Pdf

This route is a combination of the Incan history, Machu Picchu, and the current life of the rural families who produce coffee, cacao, and coca. We visit small producers, their cooperatives, and their union in Maranura. We are invited to participate in the process and to try the Chocolate Chuncho made in this sector. We finish the tour with a visit to Machu Picchu, the sacred city of the Incas. We get back to Cusco on the traditional train route.


The Route of Chocolate 4 days

Day 1: Cusco – Maranura
After breakfast at 7am we are picked up in our hotel by our private transport (optional by bike). We leave Cusco and head towards Maranura where we arrive around midday. We bring our luggage to our accommodation and have lunch at 1pm.
After lunch we drive with quad bikes and enjoy the beautiful landscape, flora, fauna, and all the nature on the route, what makes it to a unique and unforgettable experience.
Around 6:30pm we get back to Maranura, where we have dinner and sleep.

Day 2: Maranura – Cocalmayo – Santa Teresa
After breakfast we have a tour of agricultural tourism. We make a short hike to a plot where we participate in agricultural activities like harvesting coffee, cacao, coca or fruits and the processing of the products.
Furthermore we visit the waterfalls of Mandor this day. We drive around 30 minutes from Mandor to Yanay in our private transportation. Then we hike for around 20 minutes in between beautiful flora before we arrive to a crystal-clear waterfall of 70 metres. We have the chance to swim in this beautiful surroundings.
At around 2pm we have a yummy lunch, then we go to Cocalmayo where we can relax in thermal baths. Then we continue our journey to Santa Teresa before we arrive there at around 6:30pm. Dinner and night.

Day 3: Santa Teresa, Zip-Lining – Aguas Calientes
We have breakfast before we start our zip-lining adventure. We have an adrenaline canopy crossing the river Saqara using 5 different lines which are longer than 500 metres and more than 150 metres over the ground. After 2 hours we head back to Santa Teresa and at 11:30 we are brought to Hidroelectica by our private car (around 30 minutes). We arrive to Hidroelectrica, have our lunch, and begin the hike to Aguas Calientes along the railway. We arrive there at 4:00pm and check in to our hostel. Dinner and night.

Day 4: Machu Picchu – Cusco
Early in the morning at 6am we take a bus with destination Machu Picchu Sanctuary. At around 7am we start with our guided tour, which takes around 3 hours. Afterwards we have some free time for exploring the lost city.
At 3pm we take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and check in the train with destination Cusco. The train leaves at 4:43pm and arrives at 8:20pm in Poroy. From there we are brought to Cusco. Arrival in Cusco is at around 8:40pm. Transfer to the hotel and night.
